Prototyping

During the design process it is often advantageous to construct a prototype. Useful in evaluating different aspects of a part or product function, Noble advocates constructing at least a simple prototype prior to investment in detailed design and tooling. The idea is to prove the functionality and identify problems, even if the appearance is somewhat crude.

Following the detailed design process, a more polished prototype can be very useful for marketing purposes.
